Welcome to the Bruce Slater for Congress Website...
Thank you for visiting
my website and for your interest in my campaign to win the race for
Congressional Representative from Pennsylvania’s Sixteenth District.
It
is clear that the citizens and voters from Chester, Lancaster and
Berks Counties who reside within the 16th Congressional District are
ready for a change.
Our
District is turning blue. The 2006 Congressional race witnessed the
slimmest margin for Joe Pitts. The Dems won more than 75% of the
vote in Berks County. We nearly broke even in Chester County, and
there remains only a slim margin of diehard voters in Lancaster
County that we can sway to vote for a reasonable and honest
alternative to the career politician now representing our District
in Congress.
My
campaign is about honesty.
Our current
representative has
already forgotten, and clearly broken his promise to limit himself
to five (5) terms in Congress. He now wants to run for a seventh
(7th) term.
My
campaign is about caring about healthcare reform.
Our current representative has
supported the administration on the Medicare program few of the
elderly can understand. He has voted to give drug companies and
insurance companies profits they do not deserve. His support is
part of the reason our nation suffers a healthcare crisis. His
voting record ignores the needs of his elderly constituents, and the
needs of struggling middle class families.
My
campaign is about ending the violent occupation of Iraq. Our
current representative continues to vote for every request made to
extend the war in Iraq.
He supported going to war, and he continues to support a war that
has resulted in the needless loss of life of our troops and the
outrageous loss of life to thousands and thousands of unarmed men,
women, children, and elderly citizens of Iraq.
My
campaign is about fiscal responsibility.
Our
current representative continues to vote for administrative
initiatives without regard to our deficit which is now over 9
trillion dollars, close to $30,000 per United States citizen. Our
national debt grows by $1.47 billion per day. It is time to get
control of our spending!
My
campaign is about cleaning our environment and preserving our
natural resources.
Our
current representative continues to vote for measures that favor the
oil industry, corporations that pollute, and agribusiness, without
regard for the environment, and without regard for safe food and pure
water that we deserve.
My
campaign is about promoting alternative energy research and
development.
Our current representative would rather
drill for oil in protected wildlife areas than face the reality that
oil is a dwindling resource. We must search for and develop other
sources of energy -- renewable energy.
My
campaign is about promoting the return of jobs that have been
outsourced.
Our current representative continues to
support cheap labor in other countries rather than quality labor in
our own. His voting record on Labor issues ignores the realities of
those who cannot find jobs, those who have lost their jobs, those
who suffer from low wages, and those who have lost basic benefits.
My
campaign is about constituent service.
Our
current representative has a history of not being responsive to
those who write and visit him. That will end when I am elected.
My
campaign is about honoring the Constitution, the First Amendment,
the Second Amendment, and all the others as well.
Our
current representative continues to place his personal beliefs above
those of his constituents, and he actively works to foster the
agenda and values of a small group of out-of-touch people.
My
pledge to the voters of the 16th Congressional District, residents
of Berks, Chester, and Lancaster Counties, is to represent your
values, to work to improve peoples’ lives, to work to make this
nation a safer place for your children and mine, to return America’s
place in the international community to one of honor and integrity.
I
take this campaign and the job of being your Congressional
Representative very seriously. Those who know my work in the
construction industry know that I take that job seriously. No
detail will be ignored. None will be ignored by my campaign team.
None will be ignored when I am elected.
I'll be talking with as many of you as I can
between now and Election Day in November, 2008, and I promise I'll
be listening. Feel free to e-mail
me at
bruce@slaterforcongress.com, or to call our campaign
headquarters at 717-207-9330.
There is no doubt in my mind, and I have no false hopes. We have a
long road ahead of us in this election campaign, and I look forward
to your input, your questions, and your help. I look forward to
winning this campaign with your support.
